Corvex Management Seeks Board Seat at Whitbread
Corvex Management is urging Whitbread to hold a general meeting to appoint partner James Gemmell to its board to maximize shareholder value.
US-based hedge fund Corvex Management is urging Whitbread, the owner of Premier Inn, to hold a general meeting to appoint partner James Gemmell to its board of directors. Corvex, which holds approximately a 6.4% stake in the company, argues that the current share price does not reflect the value of Whitbread's underlying assets and claims a recent strategic review failed to address core challenges.
This move follows a previous attempt by Corvex in May to push for a sale of the company. In response to the request, Whitbread defended its current trajectory, stating that its Five-Year Plan is making strong progress and is expected to generate an additional £2 billion for shareholders by 2031.
Whitbread has recently implemented workforce reductions and spending cuts to manage rising costs associated with the Iran war and UK property taxes.
