Indonesia Cuts Natural Gas Exports to Singapore by 31 BBTUD

Indonesia reduced natural gas exports to Singapore by 31 billion British thermal units per day to prioritize domestic energy security and petrochemical industries.

The Government of Indonesia began reducing natural gas exports to Singapore by 31 billion British thermal units per day (BBTUD) on October 24, 2026. The cuts consist of 15 BBTUD from Natuna and 16 BBTUD from the Jambi Merang gas field in Sumatra, representing approximately 8% of 2024 pipeline export levels.

This policy follows a strategy by President Prabowo Subianto to prioritize domestic energy security and support the national petrochemical sector. Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia stated the move is necessary to safeguard resources for domestic needs and warned that Indonesia would review agreements with countries that fail to show mutual respect.

Singapore currently relies on Indonesia and Malaysia for 40% of its pipeline gas supply. Existing Indonesian contracts are scheduled to expire at the end of 2028.
