UK Court Quashes Home Office Block on Gaza Family Reunions

An immigration court ruled the UK Home Office acted unlawfully by blocking Gaza residents from joining refugee family members due to biometric requirements.

An immigration court has quashed a decision by the Home Office that prevented mothers and children in Gaza from joining family members with refugee status in the United Kingdom. Judge Fiona Lindsley ruled that the Home Secretary acted unlawfully by strictly enforcing biometric requirements despite the Gaza visa application centre being closed since October 2023.

Judge Lindsley determined that the best interests of the children, who are currently living in a war zone, must be the primary consideration in these cases. While the Foreign Office expressed a willingness to evacuate some families to Jordan for biometric processing, the Home Office intends to appeal the ruling. The department maintains that biometric enrolment is a standard requirement necessary for national security and public safety.

An estimated 250 to 300 people in Gaza remain stranded under these circumstances. This legal challenge occurs against a broader backdrop of restricted immigration, as the refugee family reunion scheme has been suspended since September 2025.
