India Private Consumption Grows 7.1% Amid Market Volatility

India's private consumption grew 7.1% in the April-June quarter despite stock market volatility and rising inflationary pressures on corporate margins.

The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation of India reported that private consumption grew 7.1% year over year in real terms during the April-June quarter of FY 2026-27.

This growth occurred alongside significant stock market volatility. The Nifty 50 index closed at 23,053.10 on October 30, roughly 12.6% below its 52-week high. Investors have remained concerned over corporate earnings and inflation, driven by Middle East tensions and rising oil prices.

Corporate performance for the period remained mixed. Nestlé India reported a 20.5% increase in sales and a 36.3% rise in profit. Titan Company saw 25% growth in its consumer businesses, although demand softened toward the end of the quarter. Dabur India forecast double-digit growth in revenue and profit, but noted that inflation has pressured operating margins.
