Oneworld Alliance Achieves Unanimous Support for Wildlife Trafficking Pact

The oneworld airline alliance became the first of its kind to secure unanimous member signatures on the Buckingham Palace Declaration to combat illegal wildlife trafficking.

The oneworld airline alliance and all 15 of its member airlines committed to combating illegal wildlife trafficking by signing the Buckingham Palace Declaration on October 16, 2026. The commitment was finalized in Brussels, Belgium, at the International Air Transport Association's Wings of Change Europe event, where Royal Jordanian President and CEO Samer Majali provided the final signature.

This marks the first time an airline alliance has achieved unanimous member support for the initiative, which was launched in 2016 by United for Wildlife. While over 70 individual airlines had previously signed the declaration, the collective agreement establishes a unified operational platform across oneworld's network of nearly 1,000 destinations. The alliance will implement 11 specific actions, including adopting zero-tolerance policies, enhancing screening and reporting for cargo and passengers, and training frontline staff to detect suspicious activity.

Signatories will collaborate with governments, customs authorities, and conservation organizations to disrupt an environmental crime economy that causes over US$1 trillion in annual economic damage. This move follows previous individual commitments by American Airlines Cargo and Delta Cargo, as well as a separate anti-human trafficking declaration issued by the SkyTeam alliance.
