Microsoft Implements Monthly Hourly Limits for Xbox Cloud Gaming
Microsoft is introducing monthly usage caps for Xbox Cloud Gaming subscribers and a pay-per-hour model for non-subscribers starting in November.
Microsoft will introduce monthly hourly limits to Xbox Cloud Gaming starting in November. The new policy establishes tiered usage caps for Xbox Game Pass subscribers: Ultimate members will receive 15 hours per month, Premium subscribers 10 hours, and Essential subscribers 5 hours.
The company stated the change is necessary because the cost of providing the service increases as usage grows. Microsoft expects the limits to impact four percent of Game Pass subscribers, though it recognizes that introducing limits is a "meaningful change" for players who frequently use cloud gaming.
Users who exceed their monthly limits can purchase additional playtime bundles through the Xbox store, with unused hours allowed to roll over. In a shift toward broader access, Microsoft is also allowing individuals without a Game Pass subscription to purchase cloud playtime hours to stream eligible games they already own.
