DSA Leader Gustavo Gordillo Faces Hypocrisy Claims Over Luxury Home

Gustavo Gordillo, a Democratic Socialists of America leader, faces criticism for living in a million-dollar home and receiving a $95,000 salary after being fired from an apprenticeship.

Gustavo Gordillo, co-chair of the New York City chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), is facing accusations of hypocrisy regarding his personal wealth and professional conduct. Reports revealed that Gordillo resides in a Brooklyn row home currently valued at $1.5 million. Property records show the Bed-Stuy residence was purchased in 2019 for nearly $1 million through a dummy corporation, Chucuito LLC, and was funded by his millionaire parents.

Parallel to these revelations, it was disclosed that Gordillo secured a full-time salary of $95,000 plus benefits from the DSA. This payment followed his termination from an electrician apprenticeship program in March 2026. The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 3 confirmed the firing resulted from Gordillo's prolonged absence and failure to participate in required classes and work.

In July, Gordillo reportedly made an emotional appeal to DSA members, citing the difficulty of balancing construction work with his political duties and the distractions of national media attention. Following this appeal, the DSA passed a measure to provide annual salaries of $95,000 to both Gordillo and co-chair Grace Mausser. Critics and local residents have labeled Gordillo a rich kid, arguing his lifestyle contradicts his anti-capitalist platform.
