Aldi Opens New Stores in New York and United Kingdom
Aldi expanded its global footprint on October 8 by opening new grocery stores in Latham, New York, and Norton, United Kingdom.
The discount retailer Aldi opened two new locations on October 8, 2026, as part of its ongoing international expansion. In the United States, the company launched its 13th Capital Region store in Latham, New York. Located at 829 Loudon Road on the site of a former Travelodge Inn damaged by fire in 2016, the store offers a seven-day weekly schedule and provided gift bags and prizes to its first 200 customers.
Simultaneously, Aldi opened a supermarket in Norton, Ryedale, in the United Kingdom. The Norton location, managed by Fiona Piercy and staffed by 22 local employees, featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by Olympic bronze medallist Chelsie Giles. The store includes a Food to Go section and the Specially Selected range, while partnering with the Neighbourly platform to provide surplus food to charities and food banks in Malton.
The Norton opening is part of a larger strategic push by Aldi UK and Ireland to open or relocate nearly 30 stores within a 10-week window. Chief Executive Officer Giles Hurley stated that the company is focusing on making food more affordable through price cuts on essentials and long-term supplier agreements to increase home-grown production.
