Indonesia Accepts Invitation for President Prabowo to Visit Tehran

President Prabowo Subianto accepted an invitation to visit Tehran to strengthen diplomatic ties amidst escalating tensions between Iran and the United States.

The Indonesian government has accepted a formal invitation from the government of Iran for President Prabowo Subianto to visit Tehran. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia confirmed the acceptance on Tuesday, stating that both nations are utilizing diplomatic channels to coordinate a mutually convenient date for the trip.

This planned visit marks Prabowo's first trip to Iran since taking office in October 2024. The diplomatic outreach follows a period of friction, including the delay of Pertamina oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz and internal Indonesian criticism regarding the nation's cautious approach to the conflict between Iran and the United States.

The invitation was formally received by Ahmad Muzani, Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly, during his attendance at the funeral of former supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The visit is intended to stabilize bilateral relations following domestic debates over Indonesia's level of representation at the funeral and its overall geopolitical positioning.
