Armenia Postpones Hearing Over Russian Agricultural Trade Restrictions

Armenia secured a one-week delay for a Eurasian Economic Commission hearing regarding Russian trade restrictions on its agricultural exports.

The Government of Armenia requested and secured a one-week postponement of a Eurasian Economic Commission hearing originally scheduled for November 3. The hearing was intended to address a complaint filed by Armenia claiming that Russia has created artificial trade barriers for its agricultural products.

The dispute began in May when the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision, known as Rosselkhoznadzor, imposed phytosanitary safety restrictions. By June 2, these measures blocked the import of grapes and stone fruits, including cherries, peaches, and apricots.

Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan declined to reveal the specific reasons for the delay, stating it would be inappropriate during an ongoing working process. Papoyan warned other Eurasian Economic Union member states that they might face similar restrictions if they do not object to the measures imposed on Armenia.
