National Urban League Launches Conference in Nashville

The National Urban League begins its annual conference in Nashville, Tennessee, on July 29, 2026. The event serves as the platform for the organization to release its 2026 State of Black America report on July 30, which analyzes current racial disparities in housing, health, and economics.

President and CEO Marc Morial selected Nashville as the host city to signal opposition to the Government of Tennessee. Morial specifically criticized the state legislature's restrictive voting laws and a new congressional map that divides a majority Black district in Memphis. He warned that such attacks on Black political empowerment could lead to the loss of hundreds of legislative seats over the next several years.

The conference concludes on August 1 and includes community-focused initiatives, including a career and job fair and a Family and Community Day featuring backpack giveaways.
