Suspicious Powder Mailings Target Minnesota Election and Government Officials
Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon and Senator Amy Klobuchar received suspicious mailings containing white powder as part of a nationwide pattern of threats.
The Minnesota Department of Administration and postal workers intercepted suspicious mailings containing threatening letters and an unidentified white powder addressed to Steve Simon, the Minnesota Secretary of State, and U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar. The U.S. Postal Inspection Service took custody of the materials to test the substances and conduct a federal investigation.
These incidents are part of a broader pattern of suspicious packages sent to election and government offices across the United States, with similar targets reported in Arizona, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Ohio. The threats emerged less than three weeks before the November 3 general election and coincided with the start of early in-person voting in Minnesota.
Secretary Simon condemned the actions, stating that threats against election workers are unacceptable and will not deter his office from supporting election officials statewide. Senator Klobuchar expressed gratitude for the quick response from officials and noted that her office would continue working with law enforcement.
