Luca Niculescu Submits Government Agenda to Romanian Parliament
Prime Minister-designate Luca Niculescu is submitting his cabinet list and government agenda to Parliament following support from the Social Democrats to end political deadlock.
Prime Minister-designate Luca Niculescu announced he will submit a government agenda and a list of cabinet ministers to Parliament on Thursday. The move follows two days of consultations with parliamentary parties and groups intended to ensure the formation of a stable government.
Niculescu moved closer to finalizing the cabinet after former ruling parties pledged support to end months of political deadlock. The Social Democrats, the largest party in parliament, intend to join the proposed government by providing 11 ministers. The upcoming cabinet is expected to feature a combination of political appointees and technocratic ministers to lead the foreign affairs, energy, and finance portfolios.
President Nicusor Dan designated Niculescu for the position at the beginning of last week, with the official appointment decree published on October 6. Under the legal timeframe, Niculescu has 10 days to present the government program and proposed ministers for parliamentary approval.
