Apple Leaks Reveal Massive Battery Boost for iPhone 18 Pro

Apple is developing the iPhone 18 Pro series with significantly larger batteries and a 2nm A20 chip to support advanced on-device AI features.

Leaked regulatory filings from China's 3C certification database reveal that Apple Inc. is preparing the largest batteries in iPhone history for the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro series. The iPhone 18 Pro Max eSIM-only model is listed with a 5,567mAh battery, while the physical SIM version features a 5,391mAh capacity. These represent increases of 479mAh and 568mAh over the iPhone 17 Pro Max, respectively. The standard iPhone 18 Pro will see more modest gains, with the eSIM model at 4,288mAh and the physical SIM model at 4,056mAh.

These hardware upgrades are designed to meet the power demands of on-device artificial intelligence in iOS 27. To accommodate the larger cells, the devices may feature a slightly thicker chassis. The series is expected to include the A20 Pro chip, manufactured using TSMC's 2-nanometer process, and 12GB of RAM. Other rumored specifications include a smaller Dynamic Island, variable-aperture main cameras, and the company's first in-house 5G modem.

While some reports suggest battery endurance may rival Android devices with 7,000mAh cells, the devices will continue to use lithium-ion technology rather than silicon-carbon batteries. Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro, Pro Max, and a rumored iPhone Ultra during its annual event on September 8 or 9, 2026, with retail availability starting around September 18.
