New Hampshire Libertarian Party Calls for Assassination of Democrats

The Libertarian Party of New Hampshire sparked widespread bipartisan condemnation after posting on X that it "openly support[s] the assassination of basically every elected Democrat in New Hampshire." The party further asserted that the state is "healthier and freer when anyone who would enact an income tax fears for their life," and suggested that those unwilling to carry out such actions should vote for the GOP. While the post was later deleted, the party defended its stance in a statement to the Union Leader.

Governor Kelly Ayotte and U.S. Representative Maggie Goodlander both called for state and federal law enforcement to investigate and prosecute the threats. Ayotte described the rhetoric as "irresponsible and dangerous," while Goodlander characterized the calls for murder as "anti-American." New Hampshire House Democratic Leader Alexis Simpson notified the Legislature's Director of Security and the Attorney General's Office, which confirmed it is aware of the posts but declined further comment.

The organization, chaired by Jeremy Kauffman, was stripped of its national affiliation in May for violating party rules. The national Libertarian Party distanced itself from the group, citing its principle of non-aggression. Additionally, the Granite State Libertarian Party, the newly recognized national affiliate for the state, rejected the statements and reaffirmed its opposition to political violence. This incident follows a pattern of threats from the group, including previous posts targeting former Vice President Kamala Harris and former Executive Councilor Andru Volinsky.
