Indian Air Force Marks 94th Anniversary With Modernization Push
The Indian Air Force celebrated its 94th anniversary with displays of combat assets and a call from Air Chief Marshal AP Singh for faster modernization.
The Indian Air Force observed its 94th anniversary on October 8, 2026, with primary celebrations at the Hindon Air Force Station in Ghaziabad. The event featured a ceremonial parade and static displays of Rafale, Su-30 MKI, and Jaguar fighter jets, alongside LCH Prachand and ALH Dhruv helicopters. The anniversary followed the theme 'Indian Air Force Infallible, Impervious and Precise.'
Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, who retires on October 31 and will be succeeded by Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit, described the force as a network-centric, multi-domain organization. While he affirmed that operational capabilities are growing in the right direction, he noted that the pace of transformation must accelerate. Singh specifically cited procurement hurdles and delays in the LCA Mk-1A project, which the force is working with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited to resolve.
President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Union Home Minister Amit Shah extended greetings to personnel and veterans. President Murmu highlighted Operation Sindoor as a demonstration of the force's precision and operational readiness. Prime Minister Modi praised the integration of drones and data to counter adversaries, while Amit Shah paid tribute to fallen martyrs.
Beyond the main ceremony, the IAF participated in Exercise Tarang Shakti 2026, including an aerial display at Jodhpur Air Force Station. The Central Air Command is also scheduled to organize further aerial displays in Varanasi on October 22, 24, and 25.
