Anthropic Recruits Monzo Co-Founder Tom Blomfield for Compute Team
Tom Blomfield joined Anthropic's compute team in July 2026, focusing on data center infrastructure and project finance.
Tom Blomfield, the co-founder of Monzo and a prominent figure in UK technology, joined the compute team at Anthropic in July 2026. He took a leave of absence from Y Combinator to accept the role of member of technical staff.
Blomfield described his daily responsibilities as focusing on project finance, gas turbines, and data center leases. In a social media post on September 1, he characterized his new colleagues as a "hyper-earnest group of meganerds" who possess a strong sense of mission regarding AI safety and a lack of ego.
This hire is part of a larger recruitment drive by Anthropic to attract high-profile talent from industry competitors. The company has recently acquired several researchers from Google DeepMind, including Amir Salek and Nobel laureate John Jumper.
