EXL Study Finds Only 10% of Companies Are AI Leaders

EXL reports a significant gap in AI adoption, with only 10% of companies successfully integrating AI into high-impact core business workflows.

EXL, a global data and AI company, released its third annual study on enterprise AI revealing a stark disconnect between corporate perception and actual adoption. While 76% of surveyed companies believe they maintain a competitive edge in AI, only 10% qualify as AI leaders by successfully integrating the technology into high-impact workflows across core business functions.

The study identifies three primary drivers of AI leadership: superior enterprise-wide data management, the complete redesign of operating models to eliminate legacy constraints, and the application of deep industry-specific and enterprise-specific context.

Rohit Kapoor, CEO of EXL, warns that companies failing to address these structural shortcomings risk obsolescence. He notes that the industry is shifting toward agentic AI, which enables the embedding of AI agents directly into core operational processes to drive significant improvements in business performance.
