Türkiye and Saudi Arabia Launch Transit Trade Route

The Government of Türkiye and the Government of Saudi Arabia have launched a transit trade route to ensure the delivery of essential goods to regional countries. Trade Minister Ömer Bolat announced the agreement during a ceremony in Ankara, explaining that products unable to navigate the Strait of Hormuz—specifically petrochemicals, chemicals, and fertilizers—will now be transported via road and pipelines.

These measures follow disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz caused by a war that began in late February, triggered by attacks from the United States and Israel on Iran. These conflicts led to the closure of critical energy basins, threatening regional economic stability. To facilitate the new route, transit visas are being issued to sustain trade across the Gulf region.

To further mitigate economic instability, the Turkish government is implementing production support schemes, maintaining food and fertilizer stocks, and reducing import customs duties to zero.
