Developers are increasingly selecting sites based on the ability to secure fast grid connections and available energy, which has led to a trend of building data centers further from major cities.
To mitigate supply chain delays, including 60-to-90-week lead times for specialized turbine blades, Space Exploration Technologies Corp. is bringing the manufacturing of critical generator components in-house. This move aims to bypass external constraints and accelerate deployment.
Regulatory bodies are adapting to these demands to prevent bottlenecks. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has directed grid operators to address co-location and flexible transmission for large loads, while PJM Interconnection is facilitating bilateral agreements between generators and large-scale users.
Demand for computing power remains high. President Donald Trump recently communicated directly with Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang to discuss the trajectory of artificial intelligence technology.
