Azerbaijan Hands OTS Chairmanship to Türkiye at 13th Summit

The Organization of Turkic States convened in Ankara for its 13th summit, where Azerbaijan transferred the organization's chairmanship to Türkiye.

The Organization of Turkic States (OTS) convened in Ankara on October 29 and 30, 2026, for its 13th summit under the theme "Turkic Century: Unity in Language, Thought and Action." The event began with a Council of Foreign Ministers meeting hosted by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, where representatives from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus reviewed the summit agenda and the draft Ankara Declaration.

During the proceedings, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov detailed the achievements of Azerbaijan's chairmanship, highlighting a 2027 roadmap for joint defense industry production and technological cooperation. Bayramov noted that Azerbaijan's tenure focused on political solidarity and expanding energy, transport, and economic ties, including diplomatic efforts in New York to secure observer status for the OTS at the United Nations General Assembly.

On October 30, the summit culminated in the formal transfer of the OTS chairmanship from the Government of Azerbaijan to the Government of Türkiye. Participants used the summit to review progress in digital transformation, trade, and investment, while discussing regional and international developments of common interest.
