Emanuel Cleaver II and House Leaders Win Reelection
Democratic Representative Emanuel Cleaver II and several Republican House leaders secured reelection in Missouri and Louisiana during the November 2026 congressional contests.
Democratic U.S. Representative Emanuel Cleaver II won reelection to Missouri's 5th Congressional District on November 4, 2026, securing his 12th term with 69.5% of the vote. Cleaver defeated Republican State Senator Rick Brattin and Libertarian Randall Langkraehr. His victory followed a legal battle over redistricting; the Missouri Supreme Court and the Supreme Court of the United States required the state to use the 2022 congressional map rather than a 2025 map favored by Republicans. Missouri voters also rejected Proposition A, which would have permitted the 2025 map in future elections.
In Louisiana, several high-ranking House members retained their seats during the November 3 elections. House Speaker Mike Johnson won the 4th District with 58% of the vote, and House Majority Leader Steve Scalise secured the 1st District with 61%. Republican Clay Higgins and Democrat Troy Carter also won reelection in the 3rd and 2nd districts, respectively.
While most Louisiana seats were decided, the 5th and 6th districts will proceed to runoff elections on December 12. In the 5th District, Democrat Patricia Moore and Republican Gabe Firment will compete, while Democrat Chauna Banks and Republican Blake Miguez will face off for the redrawn 6th District seat.
