Democrats Flip Wisconsin as Republicans Hold West Virginia Seats

Democrats won the governorship and legislature in Wisconsin while Republican incumbents defended their congressional seats in West Virginia during the November 2026 elections.

Democratic candidates secured a sweeping victory in Wisconsin during the November 5, 2026, elections, winning the governorship and majorities in both houses of the state legislature. David Crowley, the former Milwaukee County executive, won the governor's office following a volatile primary process and an endorsement from Governor Tony Evers. Democrats also flipped two congressional seats in the state, a result credited to the rebuilding efforts of political activist Ben Wikler.

In West Virginia, Republican incumbents successfully defended their congressional seats in the November 3 general election, though with narrower margins than in previous cycles. Senator Shelley Moore Capito won a third term with 58.3% of the vote, while Representatives Carol Miller and Riley Moore secured their respective seats with 57.1% and 59.4% of the vote. The campaigns centered on the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which extended tax cuts but reduced food and health care assistance.

Other notable results included an upset victory for Democrat Richard Ojeda, a former West Virginia state senator, who won the race for North Carolina's 9th Congressional District. In Greensboro, North Carolina, grassroots organization Siembra NC helped coordinate a multi-faith vigil at the Guilford County Board of Elections to ensure all votes were counted, noting record early voting among Latino communities.
