Sir Jim Ratcliffe Claims UK Energy Costs Triple US Rates

Businessman Sir Jim Ratcliffe claimed during a Sky News interview that the United Kingdom's manufacturing sector has collapsed due to prohibitive energy costs and excessive regulation. Ratcliffe asserted that industrial energy prices in the UK are three to four times higher than those in the United States and that carbon taxes have quadrupled since 2020.

Analysis of carbon markets showed a 3.4-fold increase in EU allowance prices since February 2020, but the UK's independent system saw a smaller increase of approximately 2.4 times. These claims were made in the context of the INEOS Group Limited, which receives free carbon allowances under the UK system.
