Taiwan Launches Secure Intelligence Website for Chinese Nationals

Taiwan's National Security Bureau launched a secure website and AI-promotional video encouraging Chinese citizens to provide intelligence on Beijing's political and military developments.

The National Security Bureau of Taiwan launched a secure online reporting channel on June 14, 2026, specifically designed for Chinese nationals to provide intelligence on the People's Republic of China. The initiative seeks to broaden information sources regarding China's political, military, economic, and social developments, responding to what Taipei describes as Beijing's espionage and infiltration efforts to weaken its defenses.

To encourage participation, the bureau released an AI-generated promotional video titled "Change," which depicts the atmosphere of fear within China's civil service. The NSB cited mounting economic difficulties and tightening political control in China as primary drivers for increasing public discontent. To protect informants, the agency provided specific instructions on using Western web browsers, non-Chinese hardware, and factory resets.

The platform is modeled after intelligence practices used by the United States, United Kingdom, and Israel. It is currently blocked within mainland China. This move follows elevated regional tensions, including a mid-May summit between U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping, during which Xi warned of potential clashes over Taiwan. The Government of China has previously employed similar tactics by launching a platform to report alleged Taiwan independence activities.
