Michigan Gas Prices Rise Slightly Ahead of Labor Day

Average gas prices in Michigan rose by one cent over the past week to $4.17 per gallon for regular unleaded. While this figure is 11 cents lower than last month, it remains 84 cents higher than the same period last year, when prices averaged $3.30 per gallon during the Labor Day holiday.

AAA Michigan reported regional price variations across the state, with costs peaking at $4.26 in Jackson and Barry County and dropping to $3.99 in Marquette. In Metro Detroit, prices decreased by approximately 4 cents from the previous week to settle at $4.17 per gallon. A standard 15-gallon tank now costs an average of $62.

Data from the Energy Information Administration shows gasoline demand increased to 9.04 million barrels per day, while total domestic supply fell to 206.8 million barrels. Adrienne Woodland, a spokesperson for AAA-The Auto Club Group, noted that while prices have remained relatively stable recently, drivers will still pay more this holiday than they did in 2025.
