Vietnam Urges Qualcomm and Samsung to Expand AI Investment

President To Lam and Prime Minister Le Minh Hung met with Qualcomm and Samsung executives in Hanoi to secure more investment in semiconductors and AI.

Vietnamese leaders met with executives from Qualcomm and Samsung Electronics in Hanoi on Thursday to secure expanded investment in semiconductors, artificial intelligence, and research and development. To Lam, the Communist Party General Secretary and President, requested that Qualcomm increase its focus on robotics, 5G/6G, and data centers to support a national shift toward a growth model driven by digital transformation.

Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon responded by stating the company intends to develop its Vietnamese presence into its third-largest artificial intelligence research and development hub globally. Simultaneously, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung urged Samsung Electronics to remain a key partner in developing the country's industrial base.

Samsung CEO Roh Tae-moon indicated plans for further investment and training to help local firms integrate more deeply into the company's global supply chain. Samsung has invested $24 billion in Vietnam to date, contributing to mobile phone exports that reached $500 billion by June 2026.
