Amazon Plans $3 Billion Quick Commerce Expansion in India

Amazon plans to invest $3 billion by 2030 to expand its quick commerce network and AI capabilities in India.

Amazon Inc. plans to invest $3 billion to expand its quick commerce operations in India by 2030. The investment strategy allocates $1 billion by the end of 2027 and a further $2 billion by 2030 to challenge competitors such as Blinkit, Swiggy, and Zepto.

The company intends to increase its network of small neighborhood warehouses from approximately 750 to 1,300 by April 2027. Amazon will also deploy AI tools for demand prediction and upgrade its inventory management software to better handle daily essentials.

While the company declined to comment on specific investment figures, it stated that its quick commerce business has surpassed $1 billion in annualized gross sales over the last three months. Amazon currently holds a 6.2% market share in a sector that Datum Intelligence projects will grow from $19 billion to $41 billion by 2030.

These expansion efforts occur as Amazon continues to face regulatory hurdles in India, including a pending 2024 antitrust case regarding seller preference and a January government order prohibiting companies from promoting operations as 10-minute services.
