Spotify Technology S.A. Launches Talk to Spotify AI Beta
Spotify Technology S.A. launched Talk to Spotify, a conversational AI assistant for Premium users in the U.S., Ireland, and Sweden to manage playback and discovery.
Spotify Technology S.A. announced the rollout of Talk to Spotify on July 14, 2026, introducing a conversational AI assistant for its mobile app. Currently in beta for English-speaking Premium users aged 18 and older in the United States, Ireland, and Sweden, the tool is available on iOS and Android via the Home screen and Now Playing view.
The assistant allows users to interact using text or voice to manage playback, save songs, and discover new artists through open-ended prompts. It leverages a combination of proprietary technology and third-party AI models to provide context on audiobooks, podcasts, and music, such as album release dates and creator inspirations. Notably, the system uses personal listening data to answer questions about a user's specific habits and history.
This launch is part of a wider AI strategy that includes AI DJs and prompted playlists. Future initiatives include Personal Podcasts and generative AI tools for covers and remixes developed with partners like Universal Music Group. Co-CEO Alex Norström stated the generative AI project is built around "consent, credit, and compensation," while Co-CEO Gustav Soderstrom noted the goal is to shape the listening experience in real-time based on user taste and context.
