Saudi Cabinet Backs Qatar-Pakistan Mediation Amid Houthi Attacks

The Saudi Cabinet affirmed support for Qatar and Pakistan mediation efforts to lower regional tensions while condemning Houthi strikes on Saudi cities and holy sites.

Mohammed bin Salman, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, chaired a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday to address regional security and ongoing aggression. The Cabinet affirmed the Kingdom's support for mediation efforts led by Qatar and Pakistan aimed at de-escalating regional tensions, specifically discussing talks between senior Iranian officials and member states of the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement.

Simultaneously, the Cabinet condemned repeated Houthi group attacks targeting facilities and cities, including Makkah and Medina. The government characterized these strikes as a grave aggression against Saudi sovereignty and the sanctity of Islamic holy sites. The Cabinet asserted the Kingdom's legitimate right to defend its residents, citizens, and the Two Holy Mosques.
