Kamala Harris Leads 2028 Democratic Presidential Nomination Polls
Kamala Harris leads early polling for the 2028 Democratic nomination despite donor hesitation and private opposition from her husband.
Former Vice President Kamala Harris currently leads RealClearPolitics average polling for the 2028 Democratic presidential nomination with 24% support. She is ahead of other potential contenders, including California Governor Gavin Newsom, former Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Senator Jon Ossoff.
While Harris has maintained a public profile through appearances and the publication of her campaign memoir, "107 Days," she faces a cool reception from party donors. Additionally, her husband, Douglas Emhoff, has privately told associates that he would prefer she not run for president in 2028.
Governor Gavin Newsom, who is also preparing for a potential bid, stated on September 14 that he would not seek the nomination if Harris chose to run. Political observers suggest this stance may indicate Newsom believes Harris will not enter the race, noting a Democratic Party history of avoiding the renomination of failed presidential candidates, such as Hillary Clinton and John Kerry.
