St. Louis Secures $25 Billion in AI Data Center Investments

St. Louis is attracting $25 billion in data center investments from Google and Amazon to build a regional artificial intelligence economy.

The St. Louis region is executing an aggressive digital infrastructure strategy to compete in the artificial intelligence economy, securing approximately $25 billion in data center investments. In Montgomery County, Google announced a $15 billion data center, marking the largest private investment in Missouri history, while Amazon announced a $10 billion data center campus.

These private investments are bolstered by the presence of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency's $1.7 billion NGA West campus in North St. Louis. Additionally, the region is developing the $3 billion Armory Innovation District, which recently received a conditional use permit from the St. Louis Board of Adjustment. This permit includes specific mandates for community funding and the use of renewable energy.

To manage the environmental impact of these projects, the City of St. Louis established a regulatory framework for land use and emissions. This framework aims to address public concerns regarding high water and energy consumption while maintaining the region's economic competitiveness and quality of life.
