U.S. Securities Industry Profits Pace Toward $90 Billion

The U.S. securities industry is on track for over $90 billion in profits, driven by AI financing demands and market volatility.

The U.S. securities industry is on pace to exceed $90 billion in profits, signaling a record bonus season for finance professionals. Thomas DiNapoli, the New York State Comptroller, attributed this growth to increased financing demands from the artificial intelligence boom and heightened market volatility.

This financial surge is expected to increase tax revenues for New York City and New York State, where securities industry taxes represented approximately one-fifth of all state collections last year. JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon described the current financial climate as exceptionally strong, stating, "It's getting close to as good as it gets."

While the Government of Texas is growing its finance employment at a faster percentage rate than New York—increasing nearly 26% from 2019 to 2025—New York maintains its lead in total employment. In the first quarter of 2026, New York added nearly double the finance jobs compared to Texas.
