Balochistan Government Forms Commission to Probe Ziarat Attack
The Government of Balochistan reached a written agreement with protesters to end sit-ins and strikes following a deadly terrorist attack in Ziarat.
The Government of Balochistan signed a written agreement with the Ziarat sit-in committee to end province-wide shutter-down strikes and protests in Quetta and Ziarat. The deal follows a terrorist attack in Ziarat that killed 35 people, including police personnel.
Under the accord, the provincial government will establish a judicial commission to investigate the attack and officially recognize the victims as martyrs. Families of the deceased will receive financial compensation, long-term support, and educational assistance for their children. The government also pledged to name selected public buildings in honor of the victims and will form a committee, led by the Provincial Revenue Minister, to address public revenue concerns.
Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti committed to strengthening urban policing through increased manpower and professional training. He also announced plans to convene an all-parties conference in Balochistan involving both parliamentary and non-parliamentary parties to address the law and order situation.
During a subsequent meeting in Islamabad, Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari emphasized that dialogue remains the only solution to the political issues facing the province.
