Greg Stanton Wins Arizona Democratic Primary for 4th District

Representative Greg Stanton defeated progressive challenger Kai Newkirk in the Democratic primary for Arizona's 4th Congressional District to advance to the general election.

Greg Stanton, the incumbent Representative for Arizona's 4th Congressional District, won the Democratic primary on Tuesday night. A member of the center-left New Democrat Coalition, Stanton defeated progressive challenger Kai Newkirk and now enters the November general election as the favorite to secure a fifth term.

Newkirk, a member of the Democratic Socialists of America, campaigned on a platform critical of Stanton's pro-business positions and his support for Israel. Newkirk specifically targeted Stanton's opposition to restricting arms sales and his vote to sanction the International Criminal Court. He also condemned Stanton's support for the Laken Riley Act, claiming the legislation supported authoritarian deportation efforts. In response, Stanton maintained his support for a two-state solution and called for ceasefires.

The contest ended amid controversy surrounding Newkirk. Several local activists and organizations, including the Young Democrats of Arizona and a leader from the Phoenix chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America, retracted their endorsements of Newkirk following allegations of grooming and other concerning behavior.
