Lagos Agency Seals Steel Firms and Hotels Over Pollution

The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) executed a series of enforcement actions in Ikorodu between July 27 and July 30, 2026, targeting industrial and hospitality establishments for environmental infractions. On July 27, following a directive from Commissioner Tokunbo Wahab, the agency sealed six steel manufacturing companies in the Odogunyan Industrial Layout, including Germini Steel, Top Steel, and Pulkit Alloy. Inspections found these facilities emitting particulate matter, such as brown and black dust, which threatened public health and air quality.

On July 28, the agency expanded its crackdown by sealing five hotels—Docklands, Royal Tree, Rivera, Medallion, and Daval Spring—after they failed to comply with repeated abatement notices. These closures were part of a broader state government effort to safeguard public health through the enforcement of environmental laws.

By July 30, LASEPA reopened the six steel firms after the companies signed a Memorandum of Understanding. To resume operations, the manufacturers committed to installing efficient furnace filtration systems and improving waste management. The agency has since stationed a technical team in the Odogunyan Industrial Corridor to ensure ongoing adherence to these standards.
