Rio Court Ends Judicial Recovery for Retailer Americanas

Americanas exited court-supervised restructuring after a Rio de Janeiro judge ruled the retailer met its two-year obligations following a multibillion-real accounting fraud.

A Rio de Janeiro court ended the judicial recovery process for Americanas, one of Brazil's largest retailers, on October 19, 2026. Judge Arthur Eduardo Magalhães Ferreira of the 4th Corporate Court ruled that the company and three subsidiaries—B2W Digital Lux S.À.R.L., JSM Global S.À.R.L., and ST Importações—successfully met the obligations of their restructuring plan for the first two years.

Americanas entered court-supervised restructuring in January 2023 after a multibillion-real accounting fraud left the company with debts totaling approximately R$43 billion. While the court rejected objections from certain foreign-currency debt holders, the ruling remains subject to appeal.

Following the announcement, Americanas shares rose 6.99% to R$5.97. The company described the ruling as "the start of a new stage" and reported that same-store sales grew 9.3% during the first half of 2026.
