AI Investment Drives Q2 2026 GDP Growth at 1.5%

The Bureau of Economic Analysis reports Q2 2026 GDP growth remained at 1.5%, driven largely by significant capital expenditure in AI infrastructure.

The Bureau of Economic Analysis released its second estimate for second-quarter 2026 GDP, confirming a growth rate of 1.5%. This figure remains unchanged from the initial advance estimate.

Economic growth was heavily influenced by capital expenditure in artificial intelligence. The Federal Reserve System noted that the most recent strength in business investment is linked to AI infrastructure. Data suggests that AI capital expenditure accounted for between 35% and 65% of GDP growth during the first quarter of 2026.

Despite the overall influence of AI, investment in high-tech equipment experienced a significant slowdown. The annualized growth rate for this sector dropped sharply from 39.9% in the first quarter to 6.9% in the second quarter.
