Siemens Acquires Precision Innovations and Defacto Technologies

Siemens expanded its electronic design automation portfolio through the acquisition of two privately held software specialists, Precision Innovations and Defacto Technologies. These moves aim to accelerate the semiconductor design cycle and reduce manual errors in system-on-a-chip (SoC) production.

The acquisition of San Diego-based Precision Innovations integrates AI-powered chip planning and design exploration software built on the open-source OpenROAD framework. This technology allows semiconductor teams to evaluate architectural tradeoffs and design feasibility earlier in the cycle. Ankur Gupta, Executive Vice President of Siemens, stated that integrating these capabilities can significantly accelerate time to silicon and improve power, performance, and area outcomes.

In a separate agreement announced July 21, 2026, Siemens entered into a deal to acquire Defacto Technologies. This company specializes in register-transfer level (RTL) design and the automated creation of SoC designs. By automating SoC assembly, design restructuring, and power intent management via a unified design database, Siemens intends to provide end-to-end continuity from early design through verification and signoff. Financial terms for the Defacto Technologies acquisition were not disclosed.
