Zakaria Abdulai Resigns From NDC Amid Misconduct Allegations

Zakaria Abdulai resigned as Juaben Constituency Secretary and withdrew his chairmanship bid after the NDC ordered him to step aside during a sexual misconduct probe.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) ordered Zakaria Abdulai to step aside from his candidacy for the Juaben Constituency Chairmanship on October 20, 2026. The directive followed allegations of sexual misconduct involving female students at Obuasi Senior High Technical School, where Abdulai serves as headmaster. The allegations were first highlighted in an investigative report by Manasseh Azure Awuni.

Abdulai had already been suspended by the Ghana Education Service under the direction of Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu, who referred the case to the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service. While the NDC's Functional Executive Committee initially allowed Abdulai to remain in the race based on the presumption of innocence, General Secretary Fiifi Kwetey later issued a directive for him to step aside to ensure an unhindered police investigation.

Following the party's directive and increasing public scrutiny, Abdulai resigned as the Juaben Constituency Secretary and formally withdrew his candidacy for the chairmanship. He stated that he will now use his resources to pursue lawful avenues to clear his name and vindicate his position.
