Odisha Voter Drive Registers 33,515 New Electors

The Government of Odisha registered 33,515 voters during a three-day special enrolment drive to include first-time and previously omitted citizens in electoral rolls.

The Government of Odisha conducted a three-day special voter enrolment drive from October 7 to 9, resulting in 33,515 Form-6 applications for inclusion in the electoral rolls. Organized by the Chief Electoral Officer under directions from the Election Commission of India, the initiative utilized 26,446 special camps to register citizens who turned 18 on October 1 and those omitted during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR).

Of the total applications, 32,067 were from new and young voters, while 1,448 were from electors previously left out of the rolls. The drive followed allegations from opposition parties that over 27.50 lakh eligible voters were deleted during the SIR. Official data countered these claims, indicating deletions totaled approximately 17 lakh, which included deceased and shifted voters.

Deputy Chief Electoral Officer Laxmi Prasad Sahu announced that voter enrolment and door-to-door awareness campaigns by Booth Level Officers will continue through the end of October to ensure eligible citizens are included.
