UK Government Issues Energy Discount Letters to 6 Million Homes
The Government of the United Kingdom is notifying six million households in England and Wales of a £150 winter energy bill discount.
The Government of the United Kingdom has begun distributing letters to six million households across England and Wales to confirm eligibility for the Warm Home Discount. The scheme provides a £150 reduction on energy bills for billpayers on means-tested benefits, with notifications arriving between October 2026 and January 2027.
Eligible recipients will receive the discount automatically or must contact a dedicated helpline by February 26, 2027, to provide further details. The government has committed to maintaining the program through the 2030/31 period. Minister for Energy Consumers Polly Billington stated that the discount, combined with a VAT cut on electricity bills, is intended to give families "breathing space" during a period of high energy costs.
Industry representatives and government officials have urged citizens to remain vigilant against fraud by using only official contact methods. Ned Hammond of Energy UK encouraged customers struggling with volatile energy prices to contact their suppliers to explore available support options.
