Bangladesh Adopts Bangladesh First Policy Toward India

The newly elected government of Bangladesh, led by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, is implementing a foreign policy centered on a "Bangladesh First" approach. Jahrat Adib Chowdhury, Chairperson of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reaffirmed the nation's commitment to maintaining constructive bilateral ties with India, describing it as the country's largest neighbor.

Chowdhury stated that Dhaka seeks to build foreign relationships based on a "win-win strategy" and expects to be treated with full dignity and respect regarding its national rights. While emphasizing that Bangladesh does not desire animosity with its neighbors, he noted that the relationship with India must be based on this baseline of mutual respect.

Diplomatic efforts will focus on several professional engagements to resolve long-standing issues. These include border management, water-sharing agreements, and the status of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who is currently in Delhi.
