MCA Secures Third Seat for Malacca State Election

The Malaysian Chinese Association secured the Bandar Hilir seat for the Malacca state election following negotiations between Barisan Nasional and Perikatan Nasional.

The Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) has secured a third seat, Bandar Hilir, for the Malacca state election scheduled for November 14. MCA president Wee Ka Siong announced that Jasmine Lok Huey Yee, a 38-year-old member of the Melaka Historic City Council, will contest the Chinese-majority constituency.

This allocation follows final negotiations between Barisan Nasional chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Perikatan Nasional leadership. The decision resolves a conflict that occurred on October 24, when MCA leaders walked out of a candidate announcement after being allocated only two seats, Machap Jaya and Klebang.

While Perikatan Nasional will contest six seats, the Malaysian Indian Progressive Party (MIPP), a component of that coalition, will not participate in the election after failing to secure its desired seats. Nomination day is set for October 31.
