Hyundai Reveals Bayon Mid-Size SUV for Indian Market

Hyundai Motor India Limited revealed the name and design sketches for its upcoming mid-size SUV, the Bayon, between September 14 and 16, 2026. Positioned between the Venue and Creta models, the vehicle is designed for the Indian market and takes its name from Bayonne, a city in the French Basque Country.

The SUV utilizes a Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) platform and the Art of Steel design language, which includes sculpted surfaces and H-shaped LED DRLs. The interior features twin connected screens and a central dropdown panel for HVAC controls, mirroring the fourth-generation i20. The vehicle is expected to measure slightly over four meters in length and will likely be powered by a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with manual and CVT options.

Notably, the Bayon may be the first Hyundai model over four meters to offer a factory-fitted CNG kit. The company expects to price the SUV between Rs 9 lakh and 14 lakh (ex-showroom). While some early reports suggested a launch as soon as October, the company later indicated a release during the current festive season. Additionally, Hyundai confirmed it will launch a dedicated electric vehicle in the Venue-size segment later this financial year.
