NVIDIA Urges U.S. Nuclear Energy Expansion for AI
NVIDIA advocates for a U.S. nuclear energy renaissance and regulatory reform to sustain the electricity demands of artificial intelligence and domestic manufacturing.
The Head of Sustainability at NVIDIA argues that the United States must accelerate a nuclear energy renaissance to address surging electricity demands caused by AI, economic electrification, and returning manufacturing. While acknowledging that nuclear power cannot solve near-term energy shortages due to long development timelines, the company advocates for a shift toward risk-informed regulation and the full implementation of the 2024 ADVANCE Act to streamline licensing and construction.
NVIDIA is supporting this transition by providing accelerated computing and digital twin technology to energy developers. Companies including TerraPower, Atomic Canyon, and Commonwealth Fusion Systems are using these tools to optimize reactor design, simulate infrastructure, and accelerate fusion experimentation.
The company emphasizes that while safety standards must remain high, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission must make the regulatory process more predictable. Such reforms are presented as essential for scaling advanced fission and fusion technologies to secure U.S. strategic and commercial advantages, citing France as a successful example of long-term commitment to nuclear power at scale.
