Samsung Launches Galaxy Z Fold8 and Fold8 Ultra Foldables
Samsung Electronics released the Galaxy Z Fold8 and the premium Fold8 Ultra globally, introducing new titanium hardware and integrated Galaxy AI features.
Samsung Electronics launched its latest foldable lineup globally on August 7, 2026, across 106 markets. The series is headlined by the Galaxy Z Fold8 and the new premium Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, alongside the Galaxy Z Flip8, Galaxy Watch9, and Galaxy Watch Ultra2. All devices run Android 17 with One UI 9 and utilize the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor.
The Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra is the first Ultra-branded foldable, featuring an 8-inch internal AMOLED display, a 200MP main camera, and a 5,000mAh silicon-carbon battery. It is thinner than previous models at 4.1mm when unfolded. The standard Galaxy Z Fold8 adopts a wider, more squarish design to improve pocketability, weighing 201 grams. Both models employ Flex Titanium technology to minimize the display crease. The devices integrate a Galaxy AI suite with features such as Now Brief and Now Nudge.
Early market reception shows strong demand, with Samsung reporting a global pre-order increase of over 30% compared to the previous generation. In Europe, pre-orders for the Fold8 and Fold8 Ultra combined are 70% higher than the Galaxy Z Fold7. While praised for hardware durability and multitasking, critics noted the Fold8 Ultra's wobbly design due to camera housing and a lack of S Pen compatibility. To assist developers, TestMu AI added both models to its Real Device Cloud shortly after the unveiling to allow for layout and defect testing before retail shipment.
