The Ministry of Transportation scheduled five provincial highway closures for short-term and emergency repairs and maintenance across the Waterloo region beginning July 19, 2026. These disruptions primarily affect Highway 7 and Highway 8.

In Kitchener, nightly closures of two right lanes on Highway 7 eastbound between Krug Street and Shirley Drive run from July 19 to July 24. Additionally, Highway 7 westbound between Frederick Street and Krug Street will face nightly closures from July 22 to July 25. These follow previous nightly closures on Highway 7 southbound between Wellington Street and Krug Street that occurred from July 16 to July 18.

Further maintenance affects Hamilton, where Highway 8 eastbound between Branchton Road and Highway 5 / Peter’s Corners will have one alternating lane closed from July 21 to July 24. Officials noted that these schedules remain subject to change based on weather conditions or emergency requirements.
