Lebanon Files UN Complaint Over Israeli Border Wall

The Government of Lebanon filed a formal complaint with the United Nations Security Council on November 28, 2025, accusing Israel of violating its sovereignty and territorial integrity. The complaint follows reports that the Israeli military constructed two T-shaped concrete separation walls southwest and southeast of the village of Yaroun that extend beyond the UN-mapped Blue Line.

The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) corroborated these claims, noting that a geospatial survey revealed the barriers rendered over 4,000 square meters of Lebanese land inaccessible. UNIFIL characterized the construction as a violation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701 and requested that the Israeli military remove the structures.

President Joseph Aoun directed the Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs to pursue the urgent complaint, asserting that the walls also breach a ceasefire agreement reached in November 2024. The Israel Defense Forces denied that the structures cross the Blue Line, stating the wall is part of a broader security plan initiated in 2022 to reinforce the northern border based on lessons learned from recent conflict.
