SDPI Launches Karnataka Protests Over Bus and Milk Price Hikes
The Social Democratic Party of India will launch statewide agitations in Karnataka to protest increases in government bus fares and milk prices.
The Social Democratic Party of India will begin statewide agitations across Karnataka on November 6 to protest recent increases in government bus travel fares and milk prices. The party is demanding that the Congress-led state government immediately roll back these price hikes.
Abdul Majeed, president of the SDPI's Karnataka unit, criticized the administration for lacking vision and alleged that the government is pushing the state toward bankruptcy. He noted that while the government spends ₹52,000 crores annually on guarantee schemes, it is simultaneously increasing the cost of essential services for citizens.
Majeed argued that the state should have conducted scientific studies to address transport corporation losses instead of raising fares. He further suggested that the government waive farm loans to support farmers facing drought rather than increasing milk prices. Additionally, the SDPI attributed the long-term rise in essential commodity prices to the Union government, claiming these costs have trapped citizens in debt.
